Boat Upholstery Questions

What upholstery services do you offer?

We repair and replace marine seating, cushions, seat panels, foam and other upholstered components. Whether you'd like to restore the boat's original look or give the interior a fresh custom design, we'll help you choose marine-grade materials that fit your boat and style.

What is the difference between upholstery and marine canvas?

Upholstery covers padded seating and interior components, usually with marine vinyl, foam and backing materials. Marine canvas includes covers, Bimini tops, enclosures, party tops, shade panels and similar sewn products made to protect or enclose areas of the boat.

Can you repair torn or damaged seats?

Often, yes! Repairability depends on the size and location of the damage, the condition of the surrounding vinyl and thread, the foam and whether a compatible material is available. We'll inspect the piece and give you an honest recommendation about whether repair or replacement will provide the better long-term result.

Can you replace only one cushion or panel?

Yes, when the construction allows it. Keep in mind that new vinyl may look different beside older material that has faded or changed with age. We will discuss likely color and texture differences before proceeding.

When should upholstery be repaired instead of replaced?

A localized repair can make sense when the surrounding material remains flexible and strong. Replacement is usually more practical when vinyl is brittle, cracking in several places, seams are failing throughout, foam is deteriorated or the structure beneath it is damaged.

Can you replace seat foam?

Yes. We can evaluate wet, compressed, deteriorated or uncomfortable foam and replace it with foam appropriate for the seat's use, shape, drainage and desired firmness.

Can you repair damaged seat bases?

Some wood, plastic or composite bases and backing components can be repaired or rebuilt. The extent may not be visible until the upholstery is removed, so structural repairs can affect the final scope and price.

Can you recreate discontinued upholstery?

In many cases, we can reproduce the general panel layout, colors, piping and stitching or redesign the interior when original materials are no longer available. An exact factory match cannot always be guaranteed.

Can you modernize my boat interior?

Absolutely! We can help you choose new colors, panel shapes, textures, piping and stitching for a fresh, updated look. We can also coordinate the upholstery with your flooring, canvas and exterior graphics so the finished boat feels cohesive.

What materials do you use?

We use quality marine-grade vinyl, thread, foam and supporting materials chosen for UV exposure, moisture, abrasion and boating conditions. Product selection varies by application, availability and the appearance you want.

Can you add embroidery or custom stitching?

Many designs can include embroidered names or logos, decorative stitching, piping and custom panel work. Artwork and construction details must be reviewed to confirm that they are practical, durable and authorized for use.

How should I clean marine vinyl?

Remove dirt and spills promptly with fresh water, mild soap and a soft cloth or brush, then rinse and dry. Avoid abrasive tools, harsh solvents, undiluted bleach and household products not approved for marine vinyl. Follow the material manufacturer's care instructions that we can provide you!

How much does boat upholstery cost?

Cost depends on the number and size of pieces, design complexity, foam and base condition, chosen materials, pattern work, removal and installation. Send us photos for an initial estimate, and we'll let you know if an in-person inspection is needed to finalize the project price.

How long does upholstery work take?

Timing depends on the number of pieces, design approvals, hidden repairs, material availability and the production schedule. We will provide an estimated timeframe after evaluating the project.

Can you complete flooring and upholstery together?

Yes! Coordinating flooring and upholstery is a great way to create a polished, cohesive look throughout the boat. It may also reduce repeat boat-access appointments. Tell us everything you're considering, and we'll help coordinate the project around each department's design and production schedule.\

Marine Canvas Questions

What marine canvas products do you make?

We fabricate custom boat covers, Bimini tops and frames, houseboat enclosures, party tops, canvas and mesh railings, sun screens, sunshades, equipment covers and other sewn marine products. If you have something unique in mind, reach out—we love helping customers find practical custom solutions.

Do you make custom boat covers?

Yes! Each custom cover is patterned for the specific boat and its intended use, allowing us to account for consoles, rails, towers, hardware and other features. This creates a cleaner fit and better protection than a one-size-fits-most cover.

What is the difference between a mooring cover and a travel cover?

A mooring or storage cover protects the boat while it is docked or stored. A travel cover must be specifically designed, reinforced and secured for towing forces. Never tow with a cover unless it was built and approved for that purpose.

Do you make and repair Bimini tops?

Yes! We can fabricate replacement Bimini canvas, evaluate an existing frame and build or modify certain frame systems. We'll look at the frame's condition, dimensions, mounting points and the amount of shade you want, then help you choose the best approach.

Do you make houseboat enclosures and party tops?

Yes! We create custom houseboat enclosures, party tops, Bimini tops, rail panels, mesh panels and sun screens designed around the boat's structure and how the space is used.

Can you replace clear enclosure windows?

Often, yes! We can evaluate cloudy, cracked, shrunken or damaged clear panels and determine whether replacing one panel or a larger portion of the enclosure will give you the best result.

What is Strataglass?

Strataglass is a premium clear vinyl enclosure material designed for excellent clarity and outdoor durability. It is commonly used in higher-end marine enclosures where visibility and appearance are priorities.

What is Sunbrella?

Sunbrella is a widely used performance fabric known for UV resistance, colorfastness and outdoor durability. The appropriate Sunbrella product and weight depend on whether it is being used for a cover, top, enclosure or shade application.

Can you match the existing canvas?

We can select the closest available color and texture, but older canvas may have faded or weathered. A new panel may not be an exact visual match, even when the same original color name is available.

Can you replace zippers and snaps?

Yes, many zipper, snap, fastener and seam repairs are possible when the surrounding fabric remains strong enough to support the repair.

Can torn seams be repaired?

Sometimes. If the fabric is still sound, a seam or localized tear may be repairable. If the material is brittle, stretched or failing across a large area, replacement may provide a better and more durable result.

Do you make canvas and mesh houseboat railings?

Yes! Canvas railing provides more privacy and wind blocking, while mesh railing allows greater airflow and visibility. We can help you compare the options based on privacy, pets, children, wind exposure and appearance.

Can you make covers for grills, tables and equipment?

Yes! We can fabricate covers for many marine and outdoor items, including grills, tables, consoles and equipment, after confirming dimensions, ventilation and how the item is mounted or stored.

Are boat covers waterproof?

Marine fabrics are designed to shed water and resist weather, but sewn covers are not the same as a sealed waterproof structure. Water resistance depends on fabric, seams, pitch, support, maintenance and the condition of any protective treatment.

How do I care for marine canvas?

Brush off loose dirt, rinse regularly and clean with mild soap and water according to the fabric manufacturer's instructions. Allow canvas to dry completely before folding or storing it. Avoid harsh chemicals and do not machine-wash or dry custom canvas unless specifically instructed.

How long does marine canvas last?

Lifespan depends on fabric choice, sun and weather exposure, fit, tension, cleaning, storage and how often the product is used. Proper care and prompt repair of small problems can significantly extend its service life.

How much does a custom cover or enclosure cost?

Pricing depends on the size, material, number of panels and windows, zippers and hardware, frame work, patterning, installation and boat access. Send us photos and basic project information for an initial estimate, and we'll help you understand the available options.
